Finding the perfect wedding dress can seem like quite the task. But boy are you in for a ride. We’ve never been to a fitting we didn’t love! Granted, we’ve done this a few times so we’re going to give you our top tips to ensure your wedding dress shopping experience is a hit!
1) Pinterest
Do you use Pinterest? ‘Course you do! The beauty of using Pinterest for inspiration is you can search via occasion, i.e “Beach Wedding Dress” or style like “Bohemian Wedding Dress” or body shape “Wedding Dress for Pear Shape”. Truly, you can find whatever you’re looking for when it comes to wedding dresses. What we love most about using Pinterest as a tool here is that you may stumble across styles that you didn’t even know you loved. So even though you may be broadening your search before narrowing it down, it’ll help later when you get to trying dresses on.
We should also mention that starting Pinterest boards and sharing them with your wedding planner or bridesmaids is also a fab idea. Everyone has a different creative side and it can save you time searching and scrolling alone!
2) Shape and style
With your Pinterest searches, try to identify which key styles you’re leaning towards. Narrowing down your preferences will mean you can jump straight in when you go for a fitting. If you’re not sure, that’s ok! Sometimes it’s easier when you’re there and can see it in person. Plus, the assistants are super knowledgable and can help you dress for your shape and size.
3) How do you feel
It’s as important to consider how the dress looks as it is to know how it makes you feel. You want to feel a million bucks! Like a princess! Like a boss! Whatever you want to feel in your dress, make sure you’re feeling that. Don’t settle. If you’re not feeling it, you’re not feeling it. That being said, a lot of dresses do need to be altered, and if that’s the case with you, try your best to envision the dress once you know it’s going to fit you perfectly. It can make a world of difference.
4) Do you, be true
This dress is for you, on your wedding day. Shopping for the dress with you as the primary concern is crucial! No worrying about what Margaret from work is going to think, or if you’re uncle will approve. It doesn’t matter! This is your dress, for your body! You do you, be true to yourself. This goes without saying for the entire wedding planning process. In 50 years, you’re not going to worry about these opinions of others, you’ll only be looking back fondly on the biggest day of your life. Don’t sweat the small stuff, including if your dress is too tight or not. If you love it, get it!
When it comes to choosing the right dress, there are no rules. Remember to enjoy yourself and have fun with the process. As with anything during the wedding planning process, don’t put too much pressure on yourself.
