7 Reasons to Wed on a Weekday!

Let’s play spot the difference.

I’d like you to rate each couple pictured below based on how happy they look out of 5 – which couple looks happier?

Now, can you guess which couple was wed on a Thursday…?

Trick question, they both were! Both of these beautiful couples chose to get married on a Thursday!

Here are some reasons why you should consider a weekday wedding, too:

Venue Availability

Have you had your eye on your dream wedding venue for some time, only to find out they are very popular and booked up well in advance?! Let’s say you’ve decided you’d like to get married in Spring but your venue doesn’t have any weekend dates until Spring 2027. I bet they have plenty of weekdays available though, and probably an array to choose from- just ask!

Supplier/Vendor Availability

Same as the above, except it might be your ideal photographer or florist (or wedding coordinator, ahem) and they’re already totally booked for every weekend during peak season. It’s a great idea to ask them what other days of the week they might be available within your chosen time frame. You’re more likely to be able to lock them down if you’re locking it down on a Wednesday.

Weekday Rates for Suppliers and Accommodation

This might surprise some of you, but most venues and accommodation providers offer lower rates for weekday events and stays. Ever tried to book a hotel in your local wine region on a Saturday in September? Then you know what I’m talking about! Same goes for finding availability for a wedding – you will find it easier to book an excellent wedding venue and your guests will find it easier to book accommodation. It’s a true win-win!

Get Married Sooner

Are you finallllllllly engaged, and don’t want to wait another two years to get married and get onto the house-buying / baby-making / world-domination you’ve been dreaming of?? Well, it’s your lucky day because we’re here to tell you that it is possible to plan a wedding within 30 days if you’re down for it. All you have to do is book a killer celebrant, sign your legal docs and pick your favourite weekday! (And maybe hire a wedding planner because your next 30 days are going to be wild!)

Force yourself to take the week off

Time and time again, we hear of couples who only take one or two days off work before their wedding, and we’re here to tell you that that is not enough. Aside from the many beauty appointments you might have booked, there are other last-minute details that crop up for every single wedding and it’s never nice to feel rushed into stress-mode the day before. Planning your wedding on a Wednesday, for example, would mean you’ll get to enjoy the weekend beforehand, as well as the Monday and Tuesday. Whip out your sunnies and get ready to relax!

Spectators

I can’t tell you how many times we’ve been in the middle of a romantic outdoor wedding ceremony and some nosey passersby have stopped to gawk and chat loudly. We’ve even had some try to walk up the aisle to take photos! This is WAY less likely to happen on a weekday as most people are at work or running errands and simply don’t have the time to stop and watch a wedding they weren’t invited to (mind you, I’d love to see activewear and visor caps as standard wedding attire one day; comfort AND style, baby!)

Guest Availability!

There was a time in my life when all my friends were getting married in the same year. Having buddies from different friend groups meant that there were two weekends where I had to choose which wedding to go to. Talk about stress! It was like trying to choose between a double-coat Tim Tam or an Iced Vovo! Had one (or some) of my friends chosen a weekday wedding, there never would’ve been a choice to be made. Yes, it means your guests will also have to take a day off work but really, if you mean that much to them, they’ll make the effort! And if they don’t, well there’s one less $200 meal you have to pay for!

But seriously, work has changed so much over the past 18 months, especially with all this WFH and the imposed travel restrictions. Your guests are like us all; itching for an excuse to take some time off, get away and have some fun. Your wedding could be the exact reason they need to celebrate and something to look forward to!

That’s all for today friends! Please feel free to reach out any time if you’d like to discuss planning a weekday wedding- I’m filled with mostly useful advice and hilarious anecdotes, just ask me!

Much love and happy planning!
